Reading and Writing (Week 4)

Dear all,

This week has gone so fast, and we have learned so much about the use of technology to teach reading and writing in our classes. I had no idea that there were so many good sites on the web to help the students develop their reading and writing skils. I have to say that most of the time whenever I surfed the web, I focussed only on getting activities for listening because I believe that it is really necessary to expose the students to different listening activities. This week, however, I discovered that we can actually include reading and writing with technology in our classes. The problem is that I spent too much time exploring th edifferent links given by the instructors and the participants. One site that I really enjoyed was Dvolver. In this site, students can creat movie clipts; they can choose the characters and write their dialogues. This is the address to this page: http://www.dfilm.com/live/home.html. I invite you to visit it and discover all that it has for our students to learn having fun.

The articles we read and discuss this week, give very good ideas on how to use the web for reading and writing. I think that I can adapt some or most of the activities for my classes. I especially liked the writing ideas that Krajka gives in the article "Using the Internet in the ESL Writing Instruction." in one of my posts I mentioned how I could use the activity about writing a book and a movie review with my students in the Literature class. It will give the studnets the chance to see different reviews and give them more ideas on how they can write their own reviews for our classes.

Finally, I would like to thank our guest moderator this week for sharing all those good websites and the feedback she gave us in our comments on the forum. Thank you Leslie! You can be sure that we are going to take advantage of that information.

  1. Hola Cristian,

once again I have read your interesting posts on your blog, and I have to agree with you on the fact that most teachers look for sites dealing with listening. But now we know that the Web is a great reservoir of sites to work on reading and writing, and this kind of realization is something that we won't forget at all.

Please allow me to share another link with you, so you can combine reading literature with audio, which could be useful to help students practice reading aloud and improve their pronunciation. This site is http://www.gutenberg.org/browse/categories/1

In this site, Cristian, you can find audio e-books. I hope your students can benefit from these books.

    Nos vemos,

  2. Hi Cristian and Jonathan,

I think I cannot be included in the most teachers" group .When I websearch, it's mainly for skill-buiding websites for writing not even reading because these are separated modules in our curriculum, but now with all these great skill-buiding websites we share on the blogs and delicious , I have changed my mind and from now on I will integrate the four skills in my writings lessons.

Thank you for this moviemaker website , it's so amusing to see the outcome of our choices right away.
